Proposed Springhurst development site sold

The site of six proposed condominiums on a lot at 140 Springhurst Ave., opposite the southern end of Simcoe Street, has been sold. Attempts by the Mainstreeter to seek comments from real estate agents to determine whether the new owners will proceed with the construction of condos were unsuccessful.

The condo plan was previously advertised as “six meticulously planned homes, developed as a true ‘best use’ solution for a spectacular river-view site, in a leafy, old-city neighbourhood.” The lot currently has a modest brick home and was listed for $800,000.

The proposed condos with the name Metropia were unsuccessfully for sale for more than two years. They included a 2,200-square-foot penthouse with an asking price of $1.4 million.

At the time they were originally proposed, a number of neighbours objected to the extent of intensification.
