Immaculata High School News

Student Council

Immaculata’s student body elected two Grade 12 students, Rhian Fox and Eaba Degefa as Student Council’s Head Boy and Head Girl for the 2013-2014 school year.

“It is a privilege and honour to serve our school community,” Degefa said.

Council members are already planning the year-end school retreat for the school’s student leaders and will be meeting again at the end of the summer. In the first two weeks of school they will be a visible presence for the student body. Council plans on continuing the long standing traditions of spirit assemblies and spirit weeks along with the very successful film festival. It is also important for them to incorporate new activities for students.

“We want to leave our mark,” Fox said. “We want to make unforgettable memories. We want our peers to know that Mac is their home and it is the best place to be for high school.”

The Arts

As the school year begins the Arts department will continue with its Remembrance Day presentation and Christmas Arts Night. Mrs. Martinez, music teacher, is looking forward to another successful SEVEC exchange with Grades Seven to 11.

Sports and Athletics

Our school’s Athletic Council will be chosen in the first two weeks of September. Their role will be to celebrate athleticism. The council will promote health awareness with events such as the successful annual Hoops for Heart. As well, they will involve the school community with their high-spirited intramurals and inspirational pep rallies.

Terry Fox Walk

Since our first school walk in 1995, Immaculata has raised more than $200,000 to support cancer research.  The school celebrates Terry Fox every year, as well as the nine cancer survivors within the school community and countless others living longer, healthier lives because of research Immaculata is helping fund.

This year’s walk will take place on Sept. 26 and coincides with the National Terry Fox School Walk.
