Rainbow Kidschool: Change is Good

Another school year is underway for Rainbow Kidschool – its 33rd new beginning at the Lady Evelyn Alternative School.

As it has in the past, Rainbow Kidschool is again changing its routine, offering a lunch program for pre-school children, along with extended hours.

This is the final school year for province-wide implementation of full-day kindergarten. As a result, several hours have opened up within the Rainbow program’s day.

This window provides an opportunity to extend the hours and services for the pre-school program. It now operates from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day, with the options to enroll pre-schoolers for two, three or five mornings a week.

This year’s Rainbow Kidschool students, range from 2.5 to 3.5 years old. They are settling in well and establishing new friendships.

They use their morning time to explore various play options in the classroom: a variety of art activities, dress-up, puzzles and games, or quiet time in the book corner listening to stories with one of the educators.

September started off with wonderful sunny days, giving children a daily jaunt outside to challenge their skills on the play structure, chase bubbles and rake leaves.

After all that fresh air, the children are excited to come back inside to a cozy lunch-room with gentle background music and a hot, delicious, catered meal. Children anxiously read the menu with parents each morning and look forward to meal time.

Rainbow Kidschool continues to meet ongoing challenges as the wider school system evolves. This year’s lunchtime addition is proving to be another successful change.
